Pillsbury House Theatre proudly presents Non English Speaking Spoken Here: The Late Nite Series, curated by Laurie Carlos and co-curated by e.g. bailey. Late Nite is a transformation of culture where text, music, spoken word, sounds and images weave together in a fearless celebration of new voices and new art. Witness the beginnings of brand new performances as artists from an array of disciplines come together to explore the cross currents of social change, community and identity. Each performance brings new and original acts to the Pillsbury House Theatre stage.

  • Marilyn La Grone-Amaral 

Painter, writer, Marilyn La Grone-Amaral paints pictures with words in her performance of You Won’t Go Away Hungry, a Feast for the Senses. And invites you to share her table. A present day Scheherazade, she draws you into her world of precious flavored moments of time and snapshots of a life where STORIES + PICTURES=FOOD.

  • Tish Jones 

Tish Jones is a Spoken-word artist, theater artist, activist, educator, and organizer based out of St. Paul, MN. Recognized for her work by local publications, Jones was named one of the City Pages Artists of the year, along with mention in the Star Tribune as an “Artist On The Verge” in 2007. She has performed in venues locally and nationally both as an independent artist and as a member of a Minnesota state slam team in 2006. As the founder, executive, and artistic director of a developing non profit organization, TruArtSpeaks, Tish teaches performance art and creative writing in schools throughout the Twin Cities as well as prisons and other facilities with youth programming.

  • Peter Parshall Jenson 

Peter Parshall Jensen is a multi-disciplinary writer, performer, and educator born and raised in Minneapolis, MN. He is currently in his second year of the MFA Writing for Performance Program at California Institute of the Arts (CalArts), studying under the mentorship of Carl Hancock Rux. Peter is co-founder of Project Por Amor, an ongoing cultural exchange between Cuban and US artists. A play version of Por Amor received a staged reading at CalArts in Spring 2008. Peter also wrote the award-winning science fiction play Vision’s Tale, which received productions at the University of California, Santa Cruz and the 2004 Minnesota Fringe Theater Festival. Peter is currently co-teaching at Playwriting class at Franklin High School in Highland Park and leading a Writing for Performance workshop at CalArts.

  • Ellena A. Schoop

Ellena A. Schoop writes dramatic work of social, economic and historical subject matter, driven through personal characters. A 2003-2004 Playwright’s Center Many Voices grant recipient, she developed her first full length play Panther’s Pantry.  She is also a collaborator/performer in When We Look a performance work about women, genocide and body count of war. This work is consistent with her strive to give women a voice that has been silenced. She recently returned from D.C. performing excerpts. at 24hr Black Dance Capitol Fringe Festival. As a Mama mOsAic member and collaborator, Ellena has worked with Mama mOsAic on Bride Price, Black and Blue No More, and most recently as co-collaborator of Women and War.
