Kids College
Kids College is a reading-tutoring program that focuses on building reading skills and comprehension. 35-40 youth (K-8th) participate daily during the school year. Youth read with staff, volunteers, and college interns for at least 30 minutes each day. Youth also receive help with their homework and eat a healthy snack.
Youth Action Crew
Youth Action Crew is a service-learning program designed to work with youth in 6th-8th grades. Youth concentrate their time learning about and serving in the following areas:
- Intergenerational Activities
- Career and College Prep
- Community Beautification
- Hunger and Nutrition
- Fine Arts
Youth who are successful in Coyle Crew are given priority to enroll in FANS.
FANS
FANS stands for Furthering Achievement through a Network of Support. FANS prepares youth in 8th through 12th grade for college. Youth and staff work together to develop plans to achieve goals like delaying parenthood, resisting drugs, contributing to the community and going to college. Youth are also given opportunities to find scholarships, prepare for the ACT/SAT tests and look at career opportunities that fit in line with college programs. Participating youth who fulfill the requirements are eligible to earn college scholarship money upon graduating from high school.
After School and Summer Programs
The Coyle Center offers recreational, leadership and academic support to over 300 neighborhood K-12th graders annually and includes approximately 40 hours of weekly after school, weekend and summer programming.
Programs include an academic enrichment partnership with Augsburg College (ACE Tutoring) and the University of Minnesota; 10-15 athletic teams annually; summer day camp; and a PHAT Summer Program. These programs operate the entire year and youth are rewarded with field trips on several school release days. The summer program includes weekly field trips and overnight camping opportunities.
