Volunteer
Want to make a difference in your community? Have some fun at the same time that you learn new skills and connect with your neighbors? Volunteering at Pillsbury United Communities offers volunteer opportunities ranging from cooking in a fast-paced kitchen, supporting a professional theatre, inspiring children to discover their potential, assisting adults searching for their dream job, and so much more.
Every year, hundreds of volunteers across our agency distribute food, inspire youth and adults, care for community elders, and keep our organization strong. Working together with staff and participants, volunteers may also be building their resume and earning new job experiences.
“Everybody can be great because anybody can serve. You don’t have to have a college degree to serve. You don’t have to make your subject and verb agree to serve. You only need a heart full of grace. A soul generated by love.” ―Martin Luther King Jr.
It’s easy to get started. Fill out an online application. Pillsbury United runs neighborhood centers in Phillips, Powderhorn, Cedar-Riverside, Near North, and Northside neighborhoods, so don’t forget to mention your ideal location on the form. We also offer programming in a wide variety of areas from emergency services to arts and culture to wellness and nutrition and employment and training. Read more about these programs, services, centers, and business ventures on this website. A volunteer coordinator will follow up with you about your interests and availability.
“I’m happy that I’m able to contribute a little bit of my time and energy and I look forward to my volunteer shift every week. Volunteering creates and encourages connection, togetherness, empathy, and compassion. It benefits both those who volunteer and those who are served, and it helps build a stronger community.”– Aga, Volunteer, Southside Kitchen.
