 Get Involved – Become a Volunteer!



Different types of volunteer opportunities at Pillsbury United Communities include:

  • Special Events: Volunteers serve between two to eight hours at one of over a hundred community events sponsored annually by our community centers
  • Student Internships: Apply classroom learning to real life situations.
  • Group Projects: Open to school, corporate, service and church groups. Projects may involve three to 40 volunteers who serve collectively at special or individually designed events.
  • Partnerships: Groups may “adopt” a portion of a community center by providing ongoing service in a specific area such as a reading program, computer labs, food shelf service, and many others.
  • Ongoing:  These volunteers serve a minimum of two hours per week for at least three months, engaging in activities like tutoring school-age children, tending community gardens, helping prepare food for our community cafe or chairing a special event committee, among many others.  Ongoing volunteer positions vary at each site.  Positions are available at all times. The following is a general list of ongoing service possibilities:
    • Child Care Aides
    • Youth Tutors/Readers
    • Gym & Game Room Attendants
    •  Athletic Coaches
    •  ESL Instructors
    •  Food Shelf Assistants
    • Computer Lab Aides
    • Senior Program Aides
    • Office Assistants/Receptionists
    • Job Coaches
    •  Foster Families: Short and Long-Term Care  

All volunteers must complete an application and attend an orientation session. Placement may take up to two weeks.
