MINNEAPOLIS — September 17, 2018 — Today Pillsbury United Communities announced that distinguished journalist and civil rights activist Shaun King will serve as the keynote speaker for Greater>Together 2018 on Tuesday, October 23. Through his work as a columnist for The Intercept and the writer-in-residence for the Harvard Law School’s Fair Punishment Project, as well as his extensive and creative use of social media, Mr. King has established himself as a leading national advocate for social justice, criminal justice reform, and the victims of brutality, discrimination, and oppression.
Now in its second year, Greater>Together is an annual fundraising event supporting the work being undertaken by Pillsbury United Communities. This year, Greater>Together highlights Pillsbury United’s efforts to raise up stories of community and amplify underrepresented voices through media, including initiatives like North News, KRSM Radio, and Pillsbury House + Theatre. Greater>Together is sponsored this year by the Minneapolis Foundation, Best Buy, the Jay & Rose Phillips Family Foundation, and the Cargill Foundation.
“On the national stage, there is no voice more powerful than Shaun King in bringing awareness and visibility to the complex social issues facing America today,” said Adair Mosley, President and CEO of Pillsbury United Communities. “We are honored to partner with Shaun and appreciate his involvement in validating our efforts to power people and places.”
Greater>Together will be hosted at the Machine Shop in Northeast Minneapolis on October 23, from 5:30 – 8:00 p.m. Tickets are $75 in advance.
