Built with the community, for the community, North Market is a full-service grocery store, a center for wellness services and a community gathering place, all under one roof. “We’ve engaged the community in every phase of this project, so there are many people excited and eager to see North Market open,” said, Vanan Murugesan, Director of Innovation and Business Development for Pillsbury United Communities. North Market will offer good food at affordable prices, wellness services, and programs in nutrition, fitness and mindfulness, all within this community of 67,000 people who live and work in north Minneapolis.

Projects like this don’t happen without a lot of help. When Pillsbury United Communities launched the idea, partners and funders came forward to be involved. North Memorial Health is the anchor partner for wellness services offered at North Market. The North Memorial Health Wellness Resource Center provides onsite health specialists to evaluate customers’ health needs and provide resources and referrals to other medical and social services with no appointment necessary. The health specialists will also help customers manage medications, find more affordable medication options, schedule doctor appointments, advise on proper nutrition and even help shop for nutritious groceries. This wellness resource center fills a much needed gap in health and wellness services and education for the Webber-Camden community and surrounding neighborhoods.

“North Memorial Health is on a mission to improve healthcare and empower people to take control of their health. We believe that the North Memorial Health Wellness Resource Center is an effective and unique way to do that. Health coaches, nutritionists and medication managers partner to tailor solutions for individual health needs,” said Jennifer Close, president and chief ambulatory services officer, North Memorial Health. “We are proud to be a partner with Pillsbury United Communities in providing better access to healthy food and wellness services in the Webber-Camden Community.

Many individual donors and private foundations have come together to make North Market a reality. In 2017, the Minnesota State Legislature made a $2 million appropriation to help bring North Market to life. The North Market story is part of a big, bold vision for the future of north Minneapolis, and the story is just beginning.

North Market is an Enterprise of Pillsbury United Communities. Our purpose is to nourish and inspire people to live fully healthy lives by putting good food and wellness services within reach of all North Minneapolis families. 67,000 residents of North Minneapolis lack of access to healthy food and wellness services. With services like a full-service grocery store, fresh local produce, individual nutrition counseling, healthcare navigation and community programs, like yoga, meditation, and cooking demonstrations, North Market aims to nourish our neighborhood from the inside out. More than a grocery store – North Market is a hub for community health.
