FRIENDSHIP ACADEMY OF THE ARTS NAMED ONE OF THE BEST IN THE NATION

U.S. Secretary of Education, John B. King, Jr., recently announced that Friendship Academy of the Arts (FAA) has been named a 2016 National Blue Ribbon School.  FAA, a Pillsbury United Communities authorized charter school, is among 329 public and private schools across the country, and one of only 5 schools in Minnesota receiving this honor.

"National Blue Ribbon Schools are proof that we can prepare every child for college and meaningful careers," King said in a video message to honorees. "Your schools are on the cutting edge, pioneering innovative educational practices—professional learning communities, project-based learning, social and emotional learning, positive behavior systems—making you shining examples for your communities, your state and the nation.

Schools are nominated for the award by the state department of education, and then complete a comprehensive application about school practices. Schools may apply for status as Exemplary High Performing—among the top schools in a state—or Exemplary Achievement Gap Closing—schools making the fastest progress in the their state in closing achievement gaps among student subgroups.

Executive Director, Dr. Charvez Russell will represent FAA at a two-day awards ceremony in Washington, D.C., to celebrate their hard-won achievements.
